Turkiye is havings its crucial presidential and parliamentary elections of 2023 on the 14th of May, these elections are the most important not only for 85 million Turkish citizens but also for the whole region and the world because of Turkiye's active role in global affairs.
Erdogan and Kilicdaroglu are the leading contenders in the presidential competition, with a close margin, and each needs to win more than 50% of votes to become the next president.
Kemal Kilicdaroglu is the presidential candidate nominated by the six opposition parties who have allied to end Erdogan’s 20 years of rule. He promises democracy, freedom, and the reversal of the constitutional changes introduced by Erdogan. Kilic is supported by all the Western countries who view Erdogan more as an authoritarian Islamic ruler, than a democratic one. However, Erdogan and his supporters fear that if Kilic wins, the West will pursue its own agenda in Turkiye which includes a halt in the fight with Kurdish militants, acceptance of pro-west LGBT propaganda, and bitter relations with Russia.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been the only dominant leader of Turkish politics since 2002, winning elections in a row. He has been the mayor, prime minister, and president. During all these years Erdogan brought many positive changes to Turkiye and made it a strong regional power.
Under Erdogan, Turkiye’s economy flourished, rising from the world’s 18th to 13th largest in the span of 2003 to 2020. He increased infrastructure investment that offered many job opportunities, and provided easy access to education, health care, and social welfare, raising the quality of life of millions of Turks.
He has welcomed more than 3.7 million Syrian refugees who were fleeing death and allowed them to stay in Turkiye, making it the world’s largest country hosting refugees. He has provided them with health care, education, social assistance and work permits, treating them like their own citizens. He has launched many operations to clear northern Syria of terrorist militants, such as YPG, PYD and PKK, and to create a safe zone for the return of Syrian refugees to their home country. He has also cooperated with Russia, Iran and the Syrian regime for the territorial integrity of Syria.
Because of Erodgan's stable position in politics, Turkiye became a key player in various international issues. In 2022, Turkiye tried to assume the role of an arbitrator between Ukraine and Russia in their conflict. He also brokered a grain deal that allowed free transport of grains to curb global food prices, while no other Muslim country was engaged internationally to this level. Being the only Nato member, Turkiye is trying to have a balanced relationship with the Eastern world as well. Erdogan has proven to be a good political leader so far, and under his leadership, Turkiye will definitely emerge as a global power that takes care of the interests of its own country as well as others.
However, there is a challenging thing to his power that Erdogan has not paid much attention to.
The coup attempt in 2016, which was orchestrated by the US-backed Fethullah Gulen, forced him to take control of all the institutions and declare a state of emergency, which he certainly needed to do. Anyone with even remote links to Gulen was detained. In this emergency situation, many innocent people who had no connections to Gulen and who had always supported Erdogan’s democratic rule were also detained and jailed. Adnan Oktar and his community are among those who have been unjustly in prison for five years now, without any crime or links to Gulen being proven. Adnan Okrar instead was the only person who first warned officials against Gulen's Hypocritical nature. On the night of the Coup attempt, he remained on air till morning and asked his colossal number of followers, to take to the street to defend the legitimate government of Tayyip Erdogan and said the coup was illegal. He did the most effective intellectual struggle against PKK and helped raised a youth that was loyal to the Turkish nation and true to Islamic values. He always sided with Tayyip Erdogan and gave good advice to all the parties of the country whenever needed for the national unity of Turkey.
Yet nothing has been done about the release of such an influential personality. This negligence has resulted in Erdogan losing power in big cities like Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir in the 2019s election. After winning these crucial elections, of 2023, I hope that Tayyip Erdogan will free innocent people from this persecution. And with the support of people like Adnan Oktar for the government, Turkiye is bound to advance in everything.
