For the last 2 decades, especially after the 9/11 2001 attacks, there has been a significant rise in terrorism worldwide. People of each country, religion, and race have been targeted by terrorists. Terrorists attack people at their most vulnerable times. It could be an individual using violence to burst his anger to seek revengeful goals, a group or an organization to fulfill their socio-political or economic goals, or a state for religious or political reasons. But the main aim of terrorists is to create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity to further their goals using violence as a justified means. Although terrorism is a widely discussed subject, there is no agreed definition of it, mainly because one terrorist group, may not be regarded terrorist for another group for its just cause, but whether a cause is just or not, resorting to violence and killing innocent people is no way just, therefore, any attempt to kill innocent people, civilians is an act of terror. One must condemn every form of terrorism, no matter where and how it is carried out, and should struggle to eliminate it. But before one struggles against terrorism, it is important to identify the underlying causes, the ideological basis under which terrorism operates, the way terrorists think and how they justify the use of violence will help us root out terrorism permanently. If the root sources are not eliminated, terrorism may re-emerge in a different way. Terrorism certainly isn't a new Phenomenon; there is no question that terrorism existed for the earliest times through zealots of Judea, Assassins, later through French revolutionary bodies and Russian Nihilists, but its real threat came to the fore in the 20th century in the form of justified terrorism. The amount of blood shed in the 20th century has never been witnessed before in history. Advances in technology and weapons of mass destruction have facilitated terrorism and its destruction vastly and even greatly in our times.
Social
Darwinism and radical terrorism are the two main and important sources of
terrorism.
Social Darwinism is the application of
Darwinian principles to human society. According to Darwin's erroneous
belief, there is constant fight and ruthless struggle for survival in nature.
Every animal, plant, and even human, as a highly advanced species of animal, is
engaged in this ruthless struggle, in competition with each other; the weak and
incompetent are eliminated by the strong. Through this emerges the distorted idea
of superior races who have reached an advanced level of evolution and
inferior or less developed races who remained behind in the struggle and who
will soon be eliminated. Darwin wrote about the elimination of human races by
the superior ones in his book "on the Origin of Species":
At some future period, not
very distant as measured by centuries, the civilized races of man will
almost certainly exterminate and replace the savage races throughout the world.
At the same time the anthropomorphous apes … will no doubt be exterminated. The
break between man and his nearest allies will then be wider, for it will
intervene between man in a more civilized state, as we may hope, even than
the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as now between the
negro or Australian and the gorilla.
By postulating this unscientific and selfish idea on human
societies, Darwin justified hatred, violence, persecution, exploitation, and
killing of races he assumed to be inferior. It was because of social Darwinism
last century saw an enormous amount of bloodshed, and the emergence of bloody
ideologies like communism, ruthless capitalism that ignores social justice and
crushes the opponent, fascism, racism, ethnic conflicts, moral degeneration, and
many more disasters wreaking havoc on Humanity. Both World War I and World War II were
the result of Darwinist justification of constant fight and struggle for
survival between races. It was Darwinism natural selection and favored races
that formed the ideological bases of Hitler and Nazis cruel terrorist policies
that led to the death of 55 million people. Adolf Hitler considering only
the Aryan race to be superior, sought to eliminate every other race through
natural selection, putting non Aryan, poor, sick and old people in the
concentration camps, exterminating them in the gas chambers, in short, he
perpetrated all kinds of cruelties justifying them with the evolution of
man. Plekhanov, the founder of Russian communism, regarded Marxism as "Darwinism
in its application to social science." Communism applied the Darwinian idea of nature conflict to
the class conflict and accepted murder and bloodshed as a way to progress; some
120 million people were killed by communist terror. Darwin's notion of survival of
the fittest also gave scientific justification to the racist atrocities and
exploitation committed by colonialists. They began to
portray the nations they colonized as so-called "evolutionary backward
nations" and looked to Darwinism for justification. They saw no reason not to
visit disasters on nations living under their rule. Even though all of this is
a thing of the past, the theory that became the ideological basis of the savagery
in the 19th and 20th centuries is still being defended with all its might and its
destructive effects continue to be felt today too. The bloody revolutionary, political movements of the 21st century followed the same principles of violence. They took delight in shedding the blood of innocents. It is inevitable to stop Children from becoming future terrorists, being raised with
Darwinist ideas, they foolishly believe themselves to be the product of chemicals and
biological errors, free of any responsibility or accountability for their actions
towards a Creator. They regard life as a battlefield in which the strong have to win
the struggle of survival by crushing and eliminating the weak, and death as mere
end. Anyone brought up with these beliefs will inevitably be selfish, cruel, and will commit all kinds of wickedness and immoralities to the extent of killing
innocent people to facilitate alleged evolution within the human race. American
Serial killer Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer, who killed 17 people and ate bits of
them, had this to say before he was put to death:
"If a person doesn't think that there is a God to
be accountable to, then what's the point of trying to modify your behavior to
keep it within acceptable ranges? That's how I thought anyway. I always
believed the theory of evolution as truth, that we all just came from the slime
[by chance]. When we died, you know, that was it, there was nothing."
Darwinist
unscientific indoctrination that denies the existence of a creator and
accountability of one's actions in the hereafter, and a peaceful society that
exists with religious moral values, is poisoning the minds of people, turning them into serious killers, psychopaths, and animal-like entities. It is
these people indoctrinated with Darwinist materialist false beliefs who commit
terrorist activities without feeling the slightest remorse, thinking themselves
engaged in a justified struggle. Since social Darwinist lies encourage
violence as a solution to every problem, pave the ground for terrorism,
demolishing the theory of evolution will also demolish the centerpiece of
Terrorism. And the only meaningful way that can be adopted to prevent people from becoming terrorists is spiritual education. To live with the truth that God is the
one who created every human being, no matter what race, color, creed, or religion they belong to. He would look at them as the manifestation of God. He
would not look down on other races, nations or feel justified in oppressing and
even eradicating them, instead, he would be protective, kind, and compassionate
towards others. Never will such a person do the slightest harm to others, knowing Allah will hold him accountable for his actions.
Radicalism means the adoption of an uncompromising policy to achieve destructive revolutionary changes. Radicals tend to forcibly impose their ideas on people. It is either to go along with their ideas or die. There can be radicals, fanatics, extremists everywhere, following any religion, be it Islam, Christianity, Judaism, or any ideology as is the case of Marxism, Fascism, Atheism. Just as a Jew or a Christian committing terror is not labelled as Jewish or Christian terror, terror committed by a Muslim can also not be labelled as Islamic terror because among the victims have been Muslims as well. After the 9/11 incident, however, terrorism is associated with Islam. Organizations such as Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Daesh/ISI, Taliban etc, committing murders, brutal and cruel acts in the name of Islam have caused people to fear Islam. Due to the actions of these terrorist organizations, people see Islam as the religion of terror. Terrorism, however, has nothing to do with Islam. And Islam forbids and condemns terrorism of every kind. According to Islam, murdering any innocent person is tormented with hellfire forever. If a man kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell, to
abide therein (For ever): And the wrath and the curse of Allah are upon
him, and a dreadful penalty is prepared for him. (Quran, 4:930
Allah says in the Quran, anyone who kills an innocent person, it is as though he has killed the entire humanity.
...anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind... (Quran, 5:32)
Therefore, a Muslim who knows the Quran and who fears God cannot ever go and murder innocent people. If any person or members of an organization commit terror acts in the name of Islam, those terror acts are actually attacks made against Islam, the goal can be to make religion appear as evil or to incite hatred against religion. The identity may be Muslim, or he may belong to a Muslim country, but from the Quranic point of view, he is not a believer, because his actions are not in conformity with the teachings of the Quran. The religion of Islam described in the Quran is based on love, compassion, mercy, and forgiveness. It espouses freedom and forbids coercion. There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. (Quran, 2:256)
The values of the Quran hold that a Muslim treats every other person, regardless of their race, region, and religion, with love and kindness. In the Quran, God tells Prophet Moses to speak gently even to the most tyrannical ruler. And speak to him with gentle speech that perhaps he may be reminded or fear [Allah]." (Quran, 20:44) It's impossible for a religion that calls even a tyrant to be spoken gently to have anything to do with oppression, murder, and bombing people
Terrorism is the complete opposite of religion; it is cruel, merciless, oppressive, and demands bloodshed and misery. God forbids all kinds of mischief. Anarchy, terror, killing innocent people, and suicide bombing are great mischievous acts. A Muslim, on the other hand, is a person who strives to end terrorism, mischief on earth, and struggles to bring a peaceful, secure environment for everyone on earth. Therefore, to link Islam with terrorism is a grave mistake that needs to be enlightened to the world.
But how is it that terror is associated with Islam, and some Muslims are even committing terrorism in the name of Islam?
True teachings of the religion can be distorted by its blind adherents. Crusaders set a good example for this. Crusaders were European Christians who acted totally against the teachings of the Bible/Gospel. They undertook the expedition to free the Holy Land from Muslim rule and killed every Jew and Muslim living there peacefully, while none of this was justified by the teachings of the gospel. The Gospel says that Prophet Jesus commanded people to love their enemies and pray for those who persecute them. And if one slaps you, offer them the other cheek. The major reason behind the crusaders being so hostile and violent, even though the teachings of the gospel were based on love, is that they were made up of ignorant people who knew nothing about their own book.
The same is with the radical group among Muslims perpetrating attacks in the name of religion, while the true religion has nothing to do with it. When Islam spread in the Arabian Peninsula and all the tribes there accepted it, among these were the desert Arabs; their poor intellectual and cultural background prevented them from understanding the profundity and noble spirit of Islam. God states about Bedouins in the Quran: The Bedouins are stronger in disbelief and hypocrisy and more likely not to know the limits of what [laws] Allah has revealed to His Messenger. And Allah is Knowing and Wise. (9:97)
This group became part of Islam in the time of the Prophet. And later it emerged as the most fanatic and extremely vulgar sect in Islam. They were known as Kharijits. Kharijites had no comprehension of Islam and its beautiful values; they waged war against all the other Muslims. They even assassinated the caliph Ali, who was one of the closest friends of the Prophet. Just as crusaders distorted the teachings of Christianity so did some groups misinterpret Quranic verses and resort to brutality. The violence they perpetuated was the result of their social structure, rather than the religion to which they claim to adhere.
So those who carry out attacks in the name of Islam are actually people of Bedouin nature. It would be a grave mistake to think they have ceased to exist in our times. These Bedouins, devoid of love for humans, try to make Islam, a religion of peace, love, and unity, a tool for their barbarism. People of Bedouin nature can easily be incited by others to commit suicide bombing, to murder others.
One concrete fact is that radical terrorism has not ceased to exist through military measures. Military operations just lead to more civilian deaths, destroy infrastructure, and damage cities. Killing leaders is considered to be effective, however it is not. Killing Osama bin Ladin didn't put an end to Al-Qaida, and similar organizations. In fact, when you kill their leaders, they get fed by these acts and further themselves in realizing how just and rightful their struggle is. Nor does the solution lie in forcing radicals to be modern without correcting their wrong ideology. Therefore, the first and foremost thing to do is to remove the ignorance lying at the roots of a radical mindset. This ignorance can only be removed by teaching the true religion, Islam, based on the Quran, which is pure of superstitions and traditions. Once they realize their acts are against the true religion, they will have no reason to carry them out. Since radicals brainwash their followers with radical teachings, teaching the pure religion through education will be instrumental in correcting their wrong conception about religion. The responsibility of this first of all falls on the Muslim world, however West can help by spreading the real Islam based on the Quran, for that they must announce that their struggle is not against Islam but radicalism, which is different from Islam.
