Comets are a spectacular astronomical event that captures our attention due to their rarity. However, some comets are rarer than others, like the newly discovered C/2022 E3 (ZTF), nicknamed the Green Comet. It will be at its closest to Earth on February 1st and 2nd, 2023, and visible in the night sky for people to witness its greenish beauty.
What sets this comet apart from others is its appearance after 50,000 years. This comet has come after a long journey from outside of our solar system, and scientists have calculated its orbital period to be of 50,000 years. This number is of significant importance because a heavenly journey of 50,000 years is also mentioned in the Holy Quran.
"He is the Lord of heavenly pathways. The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years" (Quran, 70:3-4).
Moreover, this comet has a green hue. Green is known as the color of beauty, hope, renewal, peace, and safety. It has been mentioned in the Quran with all those meanings. The green silk dresses and cushions that paradise people will be reclining on, the water that is sent down, and the greenness that emerges afterward is the sign of hope and renewal. The elevated valley where Prophet Jesus and His beautiful mother were given protection was also full of greenery and symbolizes peace and safety.
Also according to one of the narrations of Prophet Muhammad, the last savior, Imam Mahdi, whose arrival has been foretold in monotheistic religions, will have green eyes.
The appearance of this Green comet after 50,000 years in 2023 could be a sign of the beginning of an era that brings this war-torn world into a time of peace and prosperity, a time when everyone is happy, rejoicing, and grateful to God for the blessings He has given.
It is in that sense a very special event. It bears good tidings for the good times to come. and it is a blessing of God to be able to witness it.
